Sapna, Bachat, Udaan

Helping young children and their families acquire financial skills.

The Need

The ability to make careful choices, plan and save is the essential life skill. It is even more critical in low-resource communities where all available resources are channelled to meet daily needs. Learning to save can mean learning to break an intergenerational cycle of poverty. And there is no better time to start than today.

The Intervention

The "Sapna, Bachat, Udhan : Arthik Bal Har Parivar Ka Haq" initiative helped young children and their families acquire prudent financial skills and behaviors. The program provided engaging content featuring the Sesame muppets, language for discussion and effective strategies for planning, spending, saving and sharing.

Money In My Pocket

One of the comic strips, 'Humare Sapne', part of program content, inspired 8-year-old Hiralal to become a teacher when he grows up. He has been studying hard to achieve this dream and is also saving some money for it. On Diwali, when all his friends and siblings bought new dresses for themselves, Hiralal used his saving to buy his school uniform, so that he could go to school regularly and become a teacher one day.
